Is your business website 2020 ready?

If you’ve gone back to work today, that 5am alarm probably sounded like finger nails down a blackboard or perhaps thats just me?

Anyway, 2020 is here, the start of a new decade, New Years resolutions and battling those over indulged Christmas calories – again I’m probably speaking for myself.

Before you blast off your office chair, eager to get on with the year ask yourself this question is your business website 2020 ready? Is it doing what you want?

If you’ve just answered no, then you really need to keep on reading

A Business Website Designed for 2020 not 1920

I cannot express the importance of having a website that is designed to the current and even future era.

So, if you are a business owner, you really need to think about your customers and visitors. Your website is far more than just an online presence or marketing tool, its an extension of your physical business presence.

Take good care of it, give it a face lift, a new design and make it look the part for 2020.

SSL – is your website secure?

First and for most, is your website using an SSL Certificate?

A quick check in your address bar, (the bit at the top where you punch in www.) shall reveal if it does.

If not, get one, you’re going to need one, Google will be penalising your website as a result of it not being secure.

This is 2020, so if your website is not mobile friendly now, do yourselves and your business a huge favour, get in touch with us and lets get your website mobile ready.

Your website will again be being penalised by Google.

You will be losing traffic and more importantly you will be losing customers, the majority of all forms of internet traffic comes via a mobile or tablet.

Content is still King

Content! Content! Content!

I seriously cannot express the importance of content in 2020.

In 2020 we can expect to see video content sky rocket and you really don’t need to be Steven Spielberg to make your own video content.

So get yourselves a smartphone (we know you already have one), a tripod and get filming. Whether its an interview, a 30 second tip guide or just your walk to work. Video content will be big in 2020.

Along side video, don’t forget the importance of written content like blogging. Aim to write at least one blog post every single month for the next 12 months.

The more fresh content Google finds on your website, that’s written well, the more likely you are to find your website going up those rankings.

If it helps, you can even write your own content diary, this will help you know what you are publishing, when and on what medium.

Link Building

Back in the day you could email a website that was similar to yours and exchange links with each other. They’d put a link to your website if you put link to there’s, the result link pages. Pages rammed with links.

Unfortunately Google now penalises sites with this kind of practice, don’t do it.

So how do you link build in 2020, well, this is where it gets complex, your content needs to stand out, it needs to deliver value and more importantly it has to capture a persons interest.

If your content does all of those things, the chances are someone, somewhere will link to your article or digital resource.

Can I still email webmasters?

Sure you can, but I wouldn’t like to gage the success rate of such practice. Being inundated with emails of this kind ourselves I have to say a lot of them get binned.

Organic link building sits far better with the search engines.

404 page

Check your site for 404s

A 404 is a server code or in other words it can’t find the page or resource you’re looking for on your website.

So, make sure your website doesn’t have any 404’s if it does, get them fixed.

The Google Search Console is an exceptional tool which can be used to help you find issues and fixe coverage issues you may be experiencing with your website.

Not sure what you’re looking for, get in touch and let us help.

Website Hosting that’s reliable

A lot of people will know that I am a stickler for reliable website hosting. If you’re paying £2.49pcm and the website goes offline more times than old Rover it really is time to ditch your host.

Website hosting with Boost Digital Media is both secure and reliable, plus we do a lot more to help you get the most from your website.
